Our design team have extensive experience in delivering complex projects that meet the needs of communities and stand the test of time. This includes:
Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (master planning, urban design and architecture)
Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM) make buildings that are satisfying and enjoyable to use, beautiful to look at and easy to understand. They design very different buildings for very different people to use in very different ways. They believe in making places that grow and develop over time and have a lasting architectural quality.
AHMM’s projects begin with a strategy rather than a design solution. The strategy arises from understanding the fundamental drivers of a brief, and the parameters, problems and opportunities it represents. It includes a rich exploration of the social, economic, physical and architectural context.
For nearly 30 years this approach has allowed AHMM to make architecture that resonates with clients, communities and critics alike. They design houses and housing, schools and sports buildings, exhibition spaces and offices and healthcare facilities, as well as the odd bus station and art gallery and interesting hybrids of many of the above.
AHMM’s work is also international, with overseas projects in India, the Netherlands, Ghana and the United States that feature commercial, retail, residential, amenity and educational elements.
Over the years, AHMM’s projects have been recognised with a plethora of national and international awards including the 2015 Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Stirling Prize. Other awards include: 62 RIBA Awards, 3 Stirling Prize Shortlistings, 13 British Construction Industry Awards, 10 British Council for Offices Award, 20 Civic Trust Awards National Winner, 7 Civic Trust Awards Regional Finalists, 12 Housing Design Awards, 36 AIA Awards, 6 MIPIM Awards, 15 World Architecture Festival Awards and 8 AJ Retrofit Awards.
Simon Allford, the lead for the redevelopment of Holloway Prison, was recently elected President of the RIBA.
A women-only design team of experienced architects led by AHMM’s gender equality champion Patricia Ribero, are also designing the proposed Women’s Building on site.
Exterior Architecture (landscape architects)
Formed in 2003, Exterior Architecture (ExA) are an award-winning team of creative and innovative Landscape Architects based across two studios, in London and Manchester.
ExA’s proven experience and ability to innovate and progress current landscape thinking in every project and a rigorous approach to quality, design aesthetic and sustainability, results in a fresh approach to the design of landscape spaces with both the end-user and the natural environment in mind.
Involvement in projects such as Battersea Power Station, an award-winning garden at Chelsea Flower Show, verdant-focused public realm development at 245 Hammersmith Road and the regeneration of Alma Estate highlights the broad and talented skill set of the ExA team. The studio prides itself in being good listeners, great communicators and excellent designers.
ExA’s work is underpinned by a strong conceptual basis for each project we undertake and are derived from the site or location to ensure there is a tangible link between the landscape and place.
ExA has a wide range of experience in both landscape-led master planning and place-making-focused projects which are particularly relevant to the Holloway development.
