Guttering

As autumn settles in, it's time to start preparing your outdoor space for the cold months ahead.

Here are some simple ways to winterproof your outdoor space and keep everything safe and sound before the cold strikes.

Check your gutters

Autumn leaves may be beautiful, but they can also clog your gutters. Blocked gutters cause rainwater to overflow, leading to damp patches, mould, and even damage to your walls. To prevent this, make sure gutters and downpipes are clear of debris. If you notice any issues —like cracks, damage, or blockages — contact us and we’ll get them sorted.

Look after any outdoor furniture

Winter weather can be harsh on outdoor furniture. If you’ve got space, move items like parasols, cushions, and ornaments into storage. Not only will this prevent damp and wind damage, but it’ll also make things easier when spring arrives!

Clear fall leaves

As leaves begin to fall, they can create slippery surfaces on walkways. Our Estates Services teams are already hard at work clearing communal paths, but don’t forget to keep an eye on your own spaces. Regularly sweeping leaves will help prevent slip hazards.

Store smart

If you have a balcony, please make sure not to store flammable or bulky items, including plastic or wooden sheds. A small metal cabinet may be an option for storage, but pleasecontact usbefore setting one up.

Fires or naked flames aren’t allowed on balconies or in communal areas, including barbecues, chimineas, fire pits and candles. That’s because of the fire risk to you and your neighbours. Stay cosy, but keep it safe!

Help winter wildlife

The winter months can be tough for our wildlife, but you can give them a helping hand. Set up bird feeders or build a hedgehog shelter in your outdoor space to provide a safe spot for local wildlife when the cold weather arrives.
