Domestic abuse can happen to anyone and, although it disproportionately effects women and girls, it is estimated that 1 in 6 men will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime. Domestic abuse doesn’t have to be physical; it can also include coercive control, financial abuse, sexual abuse and psychological and emotional abuse.
Men may feel that they cannot speak out; they may feel ashamed or embarrassed, or worried that they won’t be believed.
At Peabody, our staff are trained to recognise and understand domestic abuse so please contact us to discuss your situation and housing options; you’ll always be given the choice of speaking to male member of staff if you would prefer.
There are also specialist services who offer advice, support and guidance for men experiencing abuse. If you’re worried about your relationship, or that of a friend or family member, please contact:
- The ManKind Initiative on 01823 334 244 or
- The Men's Advice Line on 0808 8010 327 or use their webchat service
In an emergency, always call 999.
