Here’s our top tips to help ensure your boiler is ready to keep you warm this winter.

Whilst the sun’s still shining, cooler autumn days are just around the corner. Before you know it, you'll be reaching for the heating to keep the chill away.
As the days grow shorter and it starts to get cooler, you may start thinking about switching your boiler back on after summer. After months of little to no use, your boiler may need a little attention to make sure it’s ready to keep your home warm this winter.
Here’s our top tips to help you prepare your boiler for the colder months.
Check your boiler is working
Put the heating on to see whether your home heats up as quickly as it usually would. Check your hot water to see if it is as warm as it should be.
Bleed your radiators
Over the summer, air can get trapped in your radiators, causing them to heat up unevenly or not at all. Bleeding your radiators releases this air and ensures they work efficiently when your boiler is back in action. Simply use a radiator key to open the valve slightly until water starts to escape, then close it again.
Check the pressure
Boiler pressure can drop when it’s not in use and low pressure can lead to inefficient heating. Check the pressure gauge on your boiler - it should typically be between 1 and 1.5 bar. If it's below one, follow your boiler's manual to safely top it up.
Check your thermostat
Your thermostat controls the temperature of your home, so it’s important that it works. A comfortable temperature for your thermostat is usually between 18 and 21 degrees. When you turn your thermostat on, check if your heating responds as expected.
Check your carbon monoxide detectors
Ensure your carbon monoxide detectors are working correctly and have fresh batteries.
