Before you start clearing things out, have a think about how you plan to get rid of items  you no longer want. Think about where you’ll leave items and personal belongings in communal areas. It’s a good idea to check you’re not blocking emergency exit routes or causing a slip or trip hazard.

How to dispose of large items:

  • It’s best to check in with your local council, as they will be able to collect large and bulky items
  • You can also contact charity shops such as the British Heart Foundation who can pick up furniture for donation
  • If you’re unsure if these organisations will accept your item, you can always call ahead and ask if they will take it off your hands
  • If you’re dumping smaller items, watch out for overloading communal bin stores as this can cause problems for your refuse collection team and be unpleasant for your neighbours.

There are other ways to get rid of clothes or unwanted items. As well as sending things to charity shops, you can list a wide variety of things on Vinted.
