Resident turns 102

Gladys recently celebrated her 102nd birthday in lockdown.

Gladys lives in Darwin Court, our award-winning healthy living centre in South East London. She was born on 4 May 1918 and worked as an insurance clerk for many years.

Staff and other residents couldn’t let her 102nd birthday pass by unmarked and were keen to do something to mark the occasion. They tracked down a gluten-free cake which they delivered to her – while maintaining social distancing of course!

Previous celebrations

Two years ago, we were delighted to celebrate Gladys' 100th birthday properly. Brendan Sarsfield, our Chief Executive, went along to the party with the then Mayor of Southwark, Cllr Charlie Smith and others.

As Claire Woodcock, Peabody’s Older Person’s Housing and Support Manager, said at the time: "Gladys continues to set an example to us all".
